Wedgwood Sage Green Lidded Box

4 × 4 × 2 - inches. Antique trinket box. Late 1800’s sage green with white border. The provenance is, Nordenskjöld Estate, Stockholm, Sweden Far Bö Low Castle. The generations are descended from Navy Admiral Nordenskjöld, knighted by King Gustav.

Neoclassical figures, a tree, and small scenes with putti in relief in white adorn this beautiful jasperware box. Two female musicians with ancient Greek lyra harp, and one male addressing the recital feature atop the lid. Putti or cherubs decorate each side of the box with different plays.

Josiah Wedgwood (1730–95) was a Staffordshire potter who established an international reputation for British ceramics. A tireless innovator, he perfected a cream-coloured earthenware known as 'creamware' as well as developing a new coloured unglazed body 'jasper'.

Very good pre-loved condition. Wedgwood Made in England stamped on back.
